When: 7:00 pm Friday, March 28th, 2008 Where: Dorothy Roy Parks Alumni Center, Centennial Campus at NC State In association with the N.C. State University and the College of Textiles, Couture for a Cure is a fashion show benefit gala that will be held on Friday, March 28th, 2008 at the Dorothy Roy Parks Alumni Center on Centennial Campus in Raleigh, NC. Couture for a Cure's mission is to promote the discovery of a cure for diabetes through our fundraising efforts while bringing awareness to this disease. Couture for a Cure will be an evening of apparel and art to give students the opportunity to work towards their dreams of a career in the fashion industry through the fashion development and textile management concentrations offered at the College of Textiles. This event has been long-awaited and is one of the most culminating events of this academic year for these students. Every aspect of the event, from the jury-selected student collections to the try-outs that will be held to show production progress, will reflect their academic and creative efforts. Couture for a Cure will consist of a runway show featuring collections of aspiring fashion designers and a reception that will take place prior to the show. This event was created to not only showcase the exceptional skills and knowledge of student designers, but to bring awareness to diabetes and raise money to fund diabetes research. According to the North Caolina Diabetes Prevention and Control Branch (DCP), there is an estimated 584,000 people that have Diabetes in North Carolina alone; one third of whome do not know they ahve this disease. Through Couture for a Cure, we hope to break those statistics and hopefully one day find a cure. All of the proceeds made from now until the event takes place will go to both the Juvenile Diabetes Resarch Foundation (Raleigh Chapter) and the American Diabetes Association. Both organizations are well-known for their exceptional efforts in supporting the fight against diabetes and helping those that are unable to cope with the disease.
